Achingly beautiful with Pininfarina-designed bodywork, the V-8 Ferrari 308 continues to be recognized as one of Maranello’s finest modern road cars. Launched at Paris in 1975, the gorgeous 308 replaced the outgoing V-6 Dino 246 and, soon after, the Bertone-designed 308 GT4. The first 712 “Vetroresina” examples were bodied in fiberglass, with the remainder of production through 1985 rendered in steel. A transverse, mid-mounted, all-alloy, four-cam V-8 engine utilizing four Weber carburetors powered the 308 and initially produced 240 hp in US specification. This highly collectible, early steel-bodied, Weber- carbureted 308 GTB from 1977 is one of 2,185 such examples built through 1980, according to marque experts. As noted in its corresponding owner’s service book accompanying the vehicle, this 308 GTB was delivered new on September 3, 1977, to Jesus C. Medina of Edison, New Jersey, who was succeeded by two caretakers, including the consignor. With just three owners from new and believed to have been fastidiously maintained and never completely restored, this beautifully presented early 308 GTB is accompanied by a wealth of service records and parts receipts dating to 2004. A major service was completed in early 2024 by the noted vintage Ferrari specialists at Auto Elite in New Jersey, including the all-important timing-belt service, with a detailed invoice exceeding $6,000 on file. Correct 14" alloy wheels, shod with a freshly fitted set of period-correct Michelin XWX tires complete this collector-grade, early Ferrari 308. Collectors of all stripes should take note.
